Rolled upright the 2.4m needs about 2.5m of clearance and a gate around 800mm wide. The 1.8m needs about 1.9m. What actually stops people is pergolas, carport beams, low eaves, aircon units and overhanging branches. Walk the route from the street, look up the whole way, and count the corners you'd have to turn. If it's tight, a fence panel usually comes off in ten minutes. Yes, in every Australian state. Because the pool holds water deeper than 300mm, it is treated as a swimming pool under your state's building and pool-safety laws (Technically speaking, even plastic Bunnings pools need council approval and a fence).

That means it must be surrounded by a child-resistant safety barrier built to Australian Standard AS 1926.1-2012, and in most states it must be approved and/or registered before it is used.

The name of the process differs by state: a building permit in WA, a Complying Development Certificate or Development Application in NSW, registration with your council in VIC, and a pool safety certificate in QLD.

Yes. Every Australian state requires a compliant child-resistant barrier around any pool capable of holding water more than 300mm deep, built to the pool barrier standard AS 1926.1. Our tanks stand 610mm tall and hold water about 410mm deep, so they're well over the line. So is a plastic kiddie pool from the shops. Size isn't the test, water depth is.

The good news is that plenty of yards are already part of the way there. A compliant barrier is generally 1.2m high with a non-climbable zone and a self-closing, self-latching gate, and existing boundary or courtyard fencing often does some of the work. A licensed pool fencer or your council will tell you exactly what your yard needs.

Yes. Australian electrical rules (AS/NZS 3000:2018) require a licensed electrician to "equipotentially bond" the steel shell of any tank pool to your home's earth before it is used.

In plain English: it connects the tank to your home's earthing system so that, in the unlikely event of an electrical fault, no dangerous voltage can build up on the steel.

Your electrician issues the certificate your state requires: a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW) in NSW, a Certificate of Electrical Safety (COES) plus an independent inspection in VIC, and a Certificate of Test in QLD.

No pool is safe without a barrier and supervision, which is why the law requires both. What we can say is that the shape helps: the water sits about 410mm deep, there's a firm rim to hold, and an adult can stand comfortably anywhere in it. Those things make it easier to watch a child, they don't replace watching them. Never leave a child unsupervised around water, even for a moment.

We leak-test every single tank before it ships, so it's uncommon. But it's worth knowing what happens if it does.

The real answer…yes...and no.

They’re made out of galvanised steel, which warms up quickly, but also cools down quickly. The water temperature is actually much easier to manage than big pools. 

On scorchers the metal will warm up if left without cover in the sun for hours, but the win with stock tanks is that they can easily cool back down too. 

What actually works here in Aus:
• Throw up shade (brolly, gazebo, shade sail from Bunnings will do) for the midday arvo sun.
• Hard-shell cover on when not in use — slows heat gain and keeps the gum leaves out.
• Esky hack: If you want them really cool, freeze a few 1–3 L bottles and chuck them in; refreeze and repeat.

Real-world temps:
In sticky summer heat (think 32–38 °C days), you can keep water around 26–27 °C or lower with the tricks above.

At 410mm deep the water holds its cool in the shade, so pick your spot with an eye on the afternoon sun and use the included UV cover between swims. In full sun through a 38 degree week it will warm up, that's physics. The honest play is shade, the cover, and a top-up at night. Want to swim past March instead? The hard-shell cover holds warmth into the shoulder seasons, and the all-in-one heat pump makes it a year-round pool.

The short answer is no...and to be honest, we probably won’t anytime soon. Here’s the “why” behind that, because it’s actually the reason we’re so passionate about bringing these to Australia.

1. The Design

These are authentic stock tanks made in the USA. There are only two factories left in the world making this specific design. Since they’re built for cattle, the factories don’t make them deeper (it wouldn’t make sense for the cows!) so we can’t import them any deeper.

The simple system that works:

1. Use the floating chlorine dispenser we include with your pool.
2. Set it to the CLOSED setting — this slows the release rate so the chlorine drips into the water rather than flooding in.
3. Drop in just one of the small chlorine tablets we supply. One at a time.
4. Wait until that tablet has fully dissolved before replacing it with the next one.

Don't be tempted to load up the dispenser with multiple tablets, or add extra chlorine to "boost" the water. Over-chlorinating accelerates wear on the inside of the tank and shortens its lifespan — same as any pool surface, but more visibly so on galvanised steel.

If your water ever turns cloudy or green, the answer is rarely more chlorine. Usually it's a longer filter run, a clean of the strainer baskets, or a quick water test (any pool shop will test for free).

Yes, there's a copper insert that sits in the same floating dispenser which we offer as a non chlorine option. It asks more of you than chlorine does: more attention, more consistency, and how well it performs comes down to how well you stay on top of it. We can't guarantee its effectiveness the way we can with chlorine, and that's exactly why chlorine is what ships in every kit, not copper.

Water: A standard garden hose is all you need. Filling a 2.4m tank takes 2–3 hours.

Power: The pump and filter run on a standard 240V Australian outlet.

Most customers will need an weather proof extension leads as the pump cord is 1m.

A few rules:

• Never use non-weatherproof connections outdoors.

• Don't run extension leads where they may be exposed to water or weather.

• Before first use, a licensed electrician must also earth (equipotentially bond) the steel shell of the pool per AS/NZS 3000. This is separate from your power outlet and is required in every state.
