Frequently Asked Questions

Around 3–4 hours from cold to bathing temp (roughly 38–40Β°C), with the cover on, in mild Australian conditions.

Pre-warm with a slightly bigger starter fire, keep the cover fully on, and circulate the water with the included paddle every 30 minutes during heat-up.

Once you're at temperature, a smaller ongoing fire will hold heat comfortably for the duration of your soak.

We include a thermometre so you can measure the temperature. Please keep in mind that the water can rise above a safe bathing temperature, and it can keep getting hotter for a while even after you stop adding wood. Always check the water with the supplied thermometer and give it a stir before anyone gets in.

Do not bathe in water above 40Β°C. Keep soaks short, get out if you feel dizzy, drowsy or unwell, and take extra care with children, older people, pregnant women, anyone with a heart condition, and after drinking alcohol. While the tub is heating, keep clear of the hot-water inlet, the connecting hose, the coil and the chimney, which all get very hot.

Most orders ship within 15 business days of payment confirmation, backed by our On-Time Dispatch Guarantee β€” if we miss it, we credit you $50 per business day late, capped at $500.

Free delivery to Perth and Sydney metro. Flat-rate shipping to the rest of Australia. NT and remote postcodes quoted on request.

The Off-Grid Wood Fired Hot Tub comfortably fits 2 adults. The interior is 1.8m long Γ— 0.61m wide Γ— 0.61m deep β€” oval (stadium shape) β€” and holds around 550L when filled to a comfortable bathing depth.

It's designed for couples, solo soaks, or a parent with a child. If you want something a small group can sit in together, look at the round pool tanks (Family Plunge fits 5 adults, Urban Plunge fits 3) β€” though those run on a pump and filter, not a wood fire, and serve a different use case.

Fire safety and where to put it
The coil burns an open fire while it is running, so treat it exactly like a backyard fire pit or pizza oven.

  • Outdoors only, never indoors, in a garage, or under a roofed patio.
  • On a non-combustible base only: compacted cracker dust, gravel, concrete, stone pavers, slate or natural earth. Never on a timber or composite deck, artificial turf, or any surface that can burn.
  • Keep the firebox and chimney at least 3m clear of buildings, pergolas, sheds, fences, eaves, vegetation, washing lines and overhanging branches, or further if your council requires a greater distance to a boundary.|
  • Never light it on a day of Total Fire Ban or during local fire restrictions. Burning solid fuel on a Total Fire Ban day is an offence. Check your state fire service before lighting.
  • Some councils restrict outdoor wood smoke. Check your local rules, especially in built-up areas.
  • Burn only dry, seasoned hardwood. Keep a hose or extinguisher within reach. Never leave the fire unattended, and keep children and pets well away from the firebox and chimney. The firebox and chimney stay hot for at least 30 minutes after the fire is out.

This is an off-grid tub you fill, heat, soak in and empty, the same way you'd use an outdoor bath. Because it's filled and emptied for each use, some councils treat it as an outdoor bath (no pool fence), while others treat any tub that can hold more than 300mm of water as a spa.

Requirements vary by state and council, so confirm with your local council before you install. The UV cover we supply keeps the water clean; it is not a certified child-resistant safety cover. It is the owner's responsibility to confirm and comply.

Because this tub is off-grid with no electrical parts, it doesn't need to be earthed by an electrician. The only exception is if you later add a powered pump, or place the tub within 1.25m of a power point or garden light. In that case Australian wiring rules (AS/NZS 3000) require a licensed electrician to bond the steel shell first.

We offer a 30-Day Money-Back Guarantee.

If you don't love your hot tub, return it within 30 days of delivery β€” even if you've already used it β€” for a full refund of the purchase price.

The only condition: you cover the cost of returning the tub to our nearest metro warehouse. Once we receive and inspect it, we issue your refund.

If your order arrives damaged, faulty, or not as described, that's separate β€” we'll repair, replace, or refund under your Australian Consumer Law rights regardless of timing. Email hello@terratanks.com.au and we'll sort it.

Two options:

1. Siphon it out. Run a standard garden hose from inside the tub to a drainage point lower than the tub (a garden bed, gutter, or grate). Start the siphon and gravity does the rest. This is what most customers do.

2. Use the drain plug. The tub has a drain plug at the back. If you site the tub on a base with built-in drainage (a slight slope to a drainage pit, or a paver setup with a gap underneath), you can pull the plug and let it empty.

Refill is straightforward β€” a standard garden hose to a comfortable bathing depth (~550L for 2 adults) takes 60–90 minutes.

Select the β€œCustom Colour” add-on option before checkout.

We coat the exterior using Raptor coating, the same ultra-durable finish used on off-road vehicles, so it’s built to handle harsh outdoor conditions without chipping or fading like standard paint.

After placing your order, send your colour code (e.g. Dulux or Colorbond) to hello@terratanks.com.au or we’ll reach out to you right away to confirm the details.

If you’d prefer to chat it through, you can also call us on +61 424 661 542.

Australia-wide, freezing is rarely an issue.

For most of the country (Perth, Sydney, Brisbane, most of VIC and SA): water sits well above freezing year-round and a tub used at least once a week effectively never freezes. With the cover on, water typically loses 15–18Β°C per day β€” so even an unused tub stays well above freezing.

For alpine or sub-zero areas, you have three options:
- Drain fully between soaks (the simplest answer).
- Leave only ~125mm (5 inches) of water in the bottom β€” a small ice volume can't damage the tub.
- Float a partially inflated inner tube or a couple of sealed empty plastic bottles on the surface β€” they absorb the expansion if the surface ice forms.

If you're in an alpine zone and bathing weekly, draining is still the cleanest approach. If you're using it less often, the reduced-water + flotation method works.

For ease, use a ash pan. Empty the ash pan after each session for frequent use, or weekly for occasional use.

Cooled ash is safe to compost or scatter as garden fertiliser β€” it's high in potassium and good for most non-acid-loving plants.

Periodically check the coil and chimney for tar or soot build-up. Both are signs of damp wood or unsuitable fuel β€” switch to dry, seasoned hardwood and the build-up disappears.

Roughly $0 in ongoing power (it doesn't use any) plus a few dollars per soak in firewood.

A typical session uses about a small armful of dry hardwood β€” under $10 from a hardware store, free if you have a wood pile. Compared to a powered spa (which can run $150–$300/month just to keep hot), the running cost difference is dramatic.

There's no chemical cost either β€” because the tub is drained and refilled each use, you're not maintaining sanitiser levels.

A note on the coil: the wood fire coil kit is sourced from a separate supplier (the tub itself is supplied by Tarter USA). The 30-day guarantee covers the full product including the coil. Beyond that 30-day window, we don't offer an extended warranty on the coil β€” that's an honest limit of working with two suppliers across two countries.

If your order arrives damaged, faulty, or not as described, that's separate β€” we'll repair, replace, or refund under your Australian Consumer Law rights regardless of timing. Email hello@terratanks.com.au and we'll sort it.

The exterior of the tub stays comfortable to touch during normal use. The water sits at bathing temperature (around 38–40Β°C), so the tub walls stay close to that β€” warm but not painful.

The fire box on the coil kit, by contrast, gets very hot β€” same as any fire pit or wood-burning appliance. Don't touch the coil housing or chimney while the fire is running or for at least 30 minutes after you've put it out. Treat it the way you'd treat any open fire in your backyard.

The hose through which the warm water enters the tank can also be quite hot so please avoid bathing near that area.

The tub edge can warm up if it's been sitting in direct summer sun for hours with the cover off. If that's a concern, throw a shade sail over it or just keep the cover on between soaks.

Yes. Drain it, disconnect the coil kit, and roll the empty tub to its new spot. The coil kit detaches from the tub via two pipe connections β€” you don't need to dismantle anything else.

Most customers find a permanent spot during their first season and don't move it again, but the tub is genuinely portable if you change your mind, move house, or want to reposition seasonally.

Included with every Off-Grid Wood Fired Hot Tub:
- 1.8m oval galvanised steel tub, pre-drilled for the coil kit
- Wood fire coil kit (the heating system β€” gravity-fed, no power)
- Wooden paddle (for circulating water during heat-up)

- Ongoing phone support

Sold separately (only if you need it):
